This policy explains what personal information Cruisin collects, how we use and share it, and the
choices you have. Cruisin is operated by [Patrick Vohs / Cruisin] [(ABN [____])]. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, username, and password, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk). You may also add a profile photo.
- Profile — your display name and car details (make, model, year), shown to other members of cruises you join.
- Location — your live GPS position, collected only while you are in an active cruise and only after you grant location permission.
- Cruise activity — cruises you create or join, planned routes and meeting points, and signals you send (e.g. "cop ahead", "slow down").
- Device & usage information — basic technical data such as IP address, browser/device type, and the pages or actions you use, collected for analytics and error monitoring.
- Push notification details — if you enable notifications, a subscription token for your device so we can send cruise alerts.
2. How we use it
- to provide the core service — show your crew on the live map, plan and display routes, and deliver signals;
- to create and secure your account;
- to send push notifications you've opted into (e.g. when a cruise starts or the route changes);
- to understand which features are used and to keep the app reliable (analytics and error monitoring);
- to comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
3. Location data
Your live location is shared with the other members of the same active cruise so you can
see each other on the map. It is stored only briefly: individual positions are treated as stale
within about 30 seconds, and a cruise's location data expires automatically within around an hour
of inactivity. We don't build or keep a long-term history of your movements. When
a cruise ends, or you leave it, your live position is no longer shared.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it with other Cruisin users only as described
above (your profile, position and signals are visible to members of cruises you join). We also use
trusted service providers to operate the app, who process data on our behalf:
- Clerk — accounts and authentication (United States).
- Neon — our primary database, storing your profile, cruises, signals and push subscriptions (Australia).
- Upstash — temporary storage of live location and recent signals (expires automatically).
- Mapbox — maps, address search, and route planning; receives location and search queries needed to render the map and routes (United States).
- Fly.io — application hosting (Australia / Sydney region).
- Sentry — error monitoring; receives technical details when something goes wrong, including IP address, device/browser type, and the action that failed (European Union region).
- PostHog — product analytics; receives usage events (such as creating, joining or starting a cruise, and sending a signal), page views, and basic performance metrics, tied to your account identifier (European Union region). We do not record your screen, and we don't send your address, email, or GPS coordinates to PostHog.
- Browser push services (Apple, Google, Mozilla) — deliver notifications to your device if you enable them.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of users or the public.
5. Overseas transfers
Some of our providers are located overseas — Clerk and Mapbox in the United States, and Sentry and
PostHog in the European Union. By using Cruisin you consent to your personal information being
stored and processed in these locations. Our database and application hosting are in Australia.
6. How long we keep it
- Account & profile — until you delete your account.
- Location — only momentarily, as described above; it expires automatically.
- Cruise activity & signals — retained while associated with a cruise; we may remove older data over time.
- Analytics & error data — retained for a limited period under our providers' settings.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access & correction — you can view and update your profile in the app, and contact us to access or correct other information we hold.
- Delete your account — from the "You" tab. This removes your account and profile, and the cruises you organised, your memberships, your signals, and your push subscriptions. Your live location data is not stored long-term and expires on its own.
- Location — you can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings; the app simply won't place you on the map.
- Notifications — you can turn push notifications off in the app or your device settings.
8. Security
We use reputable providers and reasonable measures to protect your information, including
encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely
secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
Cruisin is not intended for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from
children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove
it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "last updated" date above and, for
material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
11. Contact & complaints
Questions, requests, or privacy complaints: cruisin.app@gmail.com.
We'll respond within a reasonable time. If you're in Australia and aren't satisfied with our
